Winter gold panning is a different animal to summer gold panning, that’s for sure. Long warm days with low water levels are displaced by short days, constant spates and freezing water. But the gold is still there!
One advantage to freezing weather is that the water doesn’t run off the hill because it’s frozen and so the water levels can drop. Such was the case yesterday. Although the water was freezing and ice was forming in my gold pan, the water was low enough to be workable. Four hours in the water is about as much as I can handle at this time of year.
