While the ship was sinking, a young girl was rescued from the sea by one of the crewman who later won an award for his actions.
One of my gold panning mates once bought a pewter tankard at a car boot sale which was from the Andalucia Star. Last week he listed it for sale on ebay. It was bought by a lady in Texas. He’s just had a letter from her. She was the young girl rescued from the sea when the Andalusia Star was torpedoed and sank.

I was having dinner with my dad – fish in cheese sauce, brussells sprouts, carrots and chips – and made the remark: hey, did you notice the blue sky this afternoon? It’s clearing up, maybe I’ll get out gold panning this weekend.
My father replied, I doubt it, there is more snow forecast.
I blinked a few times.
Er, I says, what do you mean more snow? There hasn’t been any snow?
Is television so powerful that it conjures make believe things into people’s heads? That’s rhetoric, in case you hadn’t noticed!

Had a great time with one of my gold panning mates over the 3 days. The weather couldn’t have been better for this time of year – it was mild, the river was low, the sun shone for most of the time we were there and we were sheltered from the wind. We even panned out a little gold!
