Windscreen Wipers

The windscreen wipers on my dad’s car were squeaking and scraping something awful so I went to our favourite garage, Station Garage in Golspie (highly recommended by the way) and Roy ordered new Renault wiper blades. The following day they were delivered and fitted. Nice and silent wipers now. Luxury!

When we got home dad was poring over the invoice. Is there something wrong I asked? No, he mused, it’s just that wipers cost more than five times what cars did when I started driving.

I laughed but the look on his face showed me he was being serious. How much did you pay for your first car, I asked? £7 15 shillings he replied. The wiper blades had cost £40.

Mercedes C-180

As I do without if I don’t have enough money to buy something and save for purchases it was rather nice to drive this thing home earlier. Two owners from new with a full service history and it is in immaculate condition for its age. I’m looking forward to some pleasant motoring this year.

An Energy Revolution

Can you imagine a world without oil? No petrol stations, no petrol or diesel engines, no oil refineries, no oil rigs, no crude supertankers and yet no shortage of energy?

Can you imagine being anywhere in the world at any time, from hot deserts to arctic tundra, day or night, and having all the energy you could possibly need right there with you, with no need for fuel?

Can you imagine no national electricity grids because there would be no further requirement for them?

Can you imagine our homes, our cars, our aircraft, ships and military vehicles having sufficient power to keep them in energy for over 15 years without any fuel bills or pollution of any kind, regardless of how much energy they were using?

Can you imagine telling OPEC to go and eat their oil?

This isn’t a dream. This is a reality. The patents are pending and the prototypes work beyond anyone’s wildest expectations. 15000 times the entire global energy needs can now be harnessed from existing thermal sun energy – available day or night, anywhere in the world – with no fuel running costs or pollution of any kind.

Here is a list of current projects under negotiations for testing of this new patent pending invention by Rolf M Landass, my unit Commander.

More Information

Internal projects

1. 5 – 10 MW power plant project in France
2. 1,5 MW power plant /pilot project in Norway
3. 3,5 kW home project in Norway
4. 3,5 kW light EGV (Energy Generating Vehicle) project in Norway utilizing a Carver One 3-wheeler
5. Propulsion project for a 400 – 600 hp tracked/wheeled APC
6. Mini-submarine pilot project with unlimited submerged range

External projects

1. US mil/security project
a. Propulsion project for a 300 hp Pick Up / Utility Vehicle
b. Propulsion for a water jet driven patrol boat
c. Field power generator 50 – 500 kW container modules
2. 5 MW supply ship project in Norway
3. There are several projects in an evaluation phase. Among them several positioned in Africa.

A global energy revolution is about to happen.

The SS Andalucia Star

During WW2 the Andalucia Star was torpedoed by U-107 while on a voyage from Argentina to the UK. Read about it here:

The Andalucia Star

While the ship was sinking, a young girl was rescued from the sea by one of the crewman who later won an award for his actions.

One of my gold panning mates once bought a pewter tankard at a car boot sale which was from the Andalucia Star. Last week he listed it for sale on ebay. It was bought by a lady in Texas. He’s just had a letter from her. She was the young girl rescued from the sea when the Andalusia Star was torpedoed and sank.

The Illusion of Television

I was having dinner with my dad – fish in cheese sauce, brussells sprouts, carrots and chips – and made the remark: hey, did you notice the blue sky this afternoon? It’s clearing up, maybe I’ll get out gold panning this weekend.

My father replied, I doubt it, there is more snow forecast.

I blinked a few times.

Er, I says, what do you mean more snow? There hasn’t been any snow?

Is television so powerful that it conjures make believe things into people’s heads? That’s rhetoric, in case you hadn’t noticed!

Black Nugget – an Iron Meteorite?

Last year while gold panning in a Scottish burn I panned out a rather nice and extremely heavy black nugget. It feels like gold and is heavy enough to be gold, but it’s black. It weighs in at an astonishing 78 gms.

Been scratching my head for months over this thing and sent pictures to a few geologists to pore over. They’ve been helpful but the piece is just too heavy to be what most of them reckon it is. Anyway, today a geologist sent me a link to a website and I went along and well, well, it looks as if I may have a small iron meteorite here. How cool is that hey?

Bushcraft Magazine feature on Gold Panning

Bushcraft and Survival Skills Magazine has published a four page feature article on gold panning for which I was interviewed and to which I contributed. All the photographs, for example, were taken by me. Written by Olivia Beardsmore, who did a fabulous job, here is what the feature looks like.

If you would like a copy of the magazine you can buy it in Borders, Blacks or order it directly from their rather impressive web site – you’re looking for issue 18.

A Winter Drive through the Strath of Kildonan

Thought you might enjoy sharing my first winter drive this year, which took me up the Strath of Kildonan for a day’s gold panning. Fun day out but my feet got cold working in the river!
